BOXSCORE BUFFALO, N.Y. -- Buffalo State scored twice early in the third period to overtake Fredonia State, 4-3, on Saturday night at the Buffalo State Ice Arena.
An even-strength goal by Matt Minerva followed by a power-play goal by A.J. Marinelli erased a 3-2 Fredonia State lead. Marinelli's game-winner came at the 5:55 mark of the final period.
Jacob Haynes had a pair of goals by the Blue Devils (4-9-6 overall, 1-7-2 SUNYAC) while Zach Reimers scored twice for the Bengals (10-7-2 overall, 6-3-1 SUNYAC).
Reimers was chosen the No. 2 star, Minerva the No. 2, and Haynes the No. 3.
Dalton Jerzak started in net for Fredonia State and made 28 saves. Emil Norman made 23 saves for the Bengals.
Buffalo State jumped into a 1-0 lead 23 seconds into the game on a goal by Reimers. Haynes evened the score at 3:05 before
Ryan Dunner gave the Blue Devils a 2-1 lead. A short-handed goal by Haynes made it 3-1 before Reimers closed out the first period with his second goal.
After a scoreless second period, Buffalo State came out hard early in the third period. First they hit a post before Minerva tallied the equalizer. Marinelli scored on a power play a few minutes later as the Bengals took the lead for good.
The two goals by Haynes give him 10 on the season, tied with
Charlie Manley for the team lead. Haynes also has a team-high 25 points and has 88 points in his college career, most among active Blue Devils.
The victory earned Buffalo State two points in the Battle By The Lake series and gave the Bengals a 9-7 lead.
