BOXSCORE REISERTOWN, Md. -- Fredonia State and nationally ranked Stevenson skated to a 2-2 tie Saturday at the Reisertown Complex.
Victor Tracy and
Ethan Kirbis had the Fredonia State goals. Ryan Patrick and Nick Gray scored for Stevenson, ranked No. 11 in the latest USCHO.com NCAA Division III rankings. Tracy finished with a goal and an assist.
Making his third straight start,
Ryan Pascarella made 30 saves and earned the No. 2 star. He was in net when the Blue Devils (4-8-5) upset the Mustangs (12-4-1) in overtime on Friday night, 4-3.
As they did on Friday, the Mustangs scored first Saturday on a goal by Patrick at 4:18 of the first period to take a 1-0 lead. The Blue Devils won the second period, 2-0. Tracy received a breakout pass and rushed up ice to score his fourth goal of the season to forge a 1-1 tie at the 4:55 mark. Skating behind the net,
Jacob Haynes then found Kirbis alone in the slot and the later converted for his third goal of the year and a 2-1 Fredonia State lead at 13:51. It was a power-play goal, Fredonia State's fourth in two days. Gray had the only goal of a tightly played third period with a shot into the corner off a faceoff to the right of Pacarella with 2:40 left in regulation.
The Blue Devils swarmed the net early in the overtime and later killed off a too many men on the ice penalty. It was the sixth time in the Fredonia State-Stevenson series that the teams have played into overtime. The Blue Devils led the all-time series 3-1 with four ties.
It's SUNYAC games from here on out for the Blue Devils, starting with a home-and-home series next Friday and Saturday vs. Buffalo State. The Bengals visit Steele Hall at 7 p.m. Friday before the series moves to Buffalo on Saturday night. In addition to four points in the SUNYAC standings, the games are worth one point each in the Battle By The Lake series between the Western New York rivals.
