FREDONIA, N.Y. -- Fredonia State improved to 9-1 overall and 2-1 in the SUNYAC with a 6-3 women's tennis home win Friday over the Cortland Red Dragons at the Steel Hall courts.
Anna Chiacchia,
Sarah Bunk,
Mikayla Johnson, and
Taylor Marelli won their singles matches. The combinations of
Anna Chiacchia and
Jane Chiacchia, and Bunk and Johnson were doubles winners.
It was the 36th singles win for
Anna Chiacchia and the 30th for Bunk. They and school-record holder
Olivia Miller, with 38 wins, are the only Blue Devils with 30-or-more career singles wins.
Bunk also improved to 10-0 in doubles competition this season. That ties seven other Blue Devils -- including herself -- for most doubles wins in a single season.
The Blue Devils are back in action Saturday against Oswego in a home match moved to the indoor courts at Lakewood (N.Y.) YMCA Tennis in anticipation of rainy weather.
