FREDONIA, N.Y. -- Fredonia held on for a 3-2 win over Buffalo State in the first game of a SUNYAC softball doubleheader Tuesday at Blue Devil Field. Buffalo State won the nightcap, 5-2, in eight innings.
Katie Yudin was Fredonia's pitcher of record in both games, winning as the starter in Game 1 and dropping Game 2 in relief.
Maria Caviris picked up her first collegiate save in the opener with two innings of scoreless relief.
Karli Murray had four hits in the doubleheader -- two in each game.
Eva FitzSimmons had two hits in the second game, three hits in the doubleheader..Â
GAME ONE
- The Blue Devils took a 2-0 lead in the third inning. Rhianna Paoletti led off with a walk, advanced to second on a sacrifice, and scored on a single by Murrray. A passed ball and a throwing error allowed Murray to score the second run.
- Maddy O'Heir walked leading off the fourth inning and went from first to third on a single by FitzSimmons. Nicole Kumro brought in the run with a sacrifice fly.
- Despite threatening in nearly every inning, Buffalo State scored both its runs on two swings in the sixth inning -- a lead-off double by Alexus Lewis followed by a two-run homer Julia Blujus.Â
- O'Heir had a single to extend her hitting streak to eight games.
- Buffalo State outhit Fredonia, 9-5, and left 16 runners stranded. The Bengals left the bases loaded in the second, fifth, and seventh innings.
- Caviris induced a grounder back to the circle for the final out.
GAME TWO
- A lead-off double by Blujus and a single by Sydney McIntosh put Buffalo State on top 1-0 in the top of the first.
- Murray doubled to lead off the Fredonia first. She later scored on a single to center by Megan Maull. A sacrifice fly by O'Heir made it 2-0, Fredonia.
- Buffalo State pulled even, 2-2, in the fifth inning off Fredonia starter Sam Seegar when Hannah Dunlap doubled and Justine Silva delivered an RBI single.
- A two-run single by Buffalo State's Chelsea Davis broke the 2-2 tie in the top of the eighth. An RBI double by Cassie O'Hern plated the fifth run.
- Fredonia had three double plays.

- Geneseo visits Blue Devil Field for a doubleheader Friday afternoon starting at 3 p.m.
- Each school earned one point in the Lake Erie Cup standings. Buffalo State leads the season-long competition, 15-14, with the SUNYAC Outdoor Track & Field meet remaining.
