Devils bounce back in Florida

ENGLEWOOD, FLA -- After losing the first game of their Florida trip on Monday, Fredonia Women's Lacrosse responded with a dominating performance defeating Gordon 19-15 Wednesday afternoon to put them just a game under .500 (2-3) for the 2019 season.

After back to back goals by Gordon in the first half, the Devils scored four unanswered by Kayla Purcell (Webster, N.Y. / Webster-Schroeder), Madeline Haney (Macedon, N.Y. / Victor), Alyssa Kissel (North Tonawanda), and Alli Coon (Livonia, N.Y. / Livonia) in less than 6 minutes to give the Devils a comfortable 8-3 lead.  The Devils had a seven goal advantage twice in the second half, their largest leads this season.

The Devils finished with a lopsided advantage in shots over the Fighting Scots, 34-23, and groundballs, 44-36.

Haney and Kissel provided the offensive push, each finding the back of the net five times with senior Jen Kershner (Liverpool, N.Y. / Liverpool) not far behind netting four.  Kissel, Kershner and junior midfielder Morgan Sinclair (Rochester, N.Y. / Greece Odyssey) each added a pair of assists.

Coon tied the Gordon's, Olivia McCarrick, with the game high in assists with five.  She also joined teammate Natalie Prims (North Tonawanda, N.Y. / North Tonawanda) with two goals.

On defense, Sinlair and Purcell combined for 10 caused turnovers with six and four, respectfully, and seven draw controls each. Freshman goalkeeper Bridget Carrie (Rochester, N.Y. / Greece-Arcadia) earned her second career victory in net, stopping five shots from the Fighting Scots.

The Blue Devils will play their final game before retuning to New York tomorrow night at 7:00 pm against the winless Salem State Vikings (0-2) in hopes of taking 2 out of 3 on their Florida trip.
