NEW PALTZ, N.Y. -- Freshman
Lauren Mickley (Danville, Oh. / Danville) scored a career-high 12 points, but it was not enough for the Devils to overcome the SUNYAC-leading New Paltz Hawks on Saturday, as the hosts claimed an 81-53 victory.
Mickley was an efficient 4-of-6 from the field, and 2-of-2 from the line.
New Paltz (14-1 SUNYAC / 18-4 overall) had four players in double digits, led by Lindsay Bettke's 19.
With New Paltz leading 14-12 after a jumper by Fredonia's
Jenna Einink, the Hawks ran the lead to double digits with an 8-0 burst, going up 22-12, with 1:30 left in the first quarter. They would hold a 24-14 lead after the first.
New Paltz kept up the pace offensively, and expanded the lead to 20 by the half. Fredonia mustered just eight points in the second quarter.
The Devils never gained traction in the second half, as the Hawks cruised to the victory.
Sydney Turley (Buffalo, N.Y. / Cleveland Hill) added seven points, and Einink had a team-high six rebounds.
Fredonia (8-9 / 11-13) wraps up the regular season on Saturday at Buffalo State. The Devils currently sit in fifth place with one game to go. The top six teams make the conference tournament. Fredonia defeated Buffalo State, 80-76, earlier in the season.
