Bears claw Devils

FREDONIA, N.Y. -- The visiting Potsdam Bears dropped the Fredonia men's basketball team, 75-66, on Sunday in Dods Hall. Isaiah Ice (Bronx, N.Y. / Iona Prep) led the Devils with 15 points. De'Quan Smith (Rochester, N.Y. / Penfield) added 14 points and three steals. Mark Morgan (Bronx, N.Y. / South Bronx Prep) had eight rebounds and seven points.

Potsdam scored the first seven points of the game. After the early lead, the Devils hung with Potsdam and would make it a one-possession game after a three pointer by Bediako Nyasa (Bronx, N.Y. / Walton Campus) made it 18-16 with 8:37 to play in the first half.

After a Potsdam free throw, Morgan converted a layup to make it 19-18. A Messiah Hill (Brooklyn, N.Y. / Paul Robeson) layup gave Fredonia its first lead, 20-18, with just under seven minutes on the clock.

A pair of free throws and a jumper put Potsdam back in the driver's seat. There would be two more lead changes and two ties before Potsdam settled for a 33-29 lead at the half.

Potsdam inched away in the second half. They would lead 59-46 at the 8:47 mark. The 13-point lead would be the biggest of the game to that point.

The Devils would not give in. They would go on a 10-4 run capped by a layup by Ice with 3:58 to play to pull within four, 63-59.

Later the half, they would again make it a four-point game. With 1:09 on the clock, Smith connected on a pair of free throws to make it 68-64. The Devils went one of five from the floor in the final minute as the Bears hung on for the win.

Fredonia falls to 2-19 and 1-13 in SUNYAC play.

Potsdam (12-9 / 8-6 SUNYAC) was led by Serigne Kane with 21 points and nine rebounds. He shot 10 of 10 from the floor. Dante Langley added 15 points and Danny Delsol-Lowry had 15 points and 10 boards.
