Season ends in semis

FREDONIA, N.Y. -- The Fredonia women's basketball team could not get the offense rolling as their season came to a close with a 62-30 loss to Geneseo in the semifinals of the SUNYAC Tournament on Friday.

Fredonia shot 21 percent from the floor for the game, and mustered only 15 points through the first three quarters, before outscoring the Knights 15-13 in the final quarter.

The first half saw the Devils score 12 points on 5-of-25 shooting (20 percent) from the field. Conversely, the Knights hit 41 percent of their shots en route to a 28-12 halftime lead.

They were also out-rebounded 27-13 in the opening half, and 52-28 for the game.

Jenna Einink (Westfield, N.Y. / Chautauqua Lake) was the leading scorer at the half for the Devils with five points. She accounted for all the Devil offense in the first period with a jumper and three pointer while Geneseo built a 16-5 lead.

Rae White finished the game with a team-high seven points. Katie Pitcher (Fulton, N.Y. / Hannibal) and Sydney Turley (Buffalo, N.Y. / Cleveland Hill) had four rebounds apiece.

The Devils finish the season at 12-15. Geneseo (23-3) was led by Brooks Mckenna and Lindsay Halpin with 14 points apiece. They advance to the championship game on Saturday.
