FREDONIA, N.Y. -- For the fifth time in program history, the Fredonia women's basketball team finds itself in the semifinal round of the SUNYAC Tournament.
The Blue Devils (12-14) go into Friday's game vs. Geneseo -- 5:30 p.m. at neutral site New Paltz -- looking to advance to the SUNYAC championship game for the first time and to avenge a pair of regular-season losses to the No. 2 seeded Blue Knights (22-3). Geneseo scored a 85-62 victory Jan. 8 at Dods Hall, then defended its home floor Jan. 22 with a 69-59 win.
To reach the semifinal round this year, Fredonia, the No. 6 seed, upset No. 3 seed Oneonta, 59-51, in a SUNYAC first-round game Tuesday night. The Blue Devils were also semifinalists in 1992, 2001, 2003, and 2016.Â
In Friday's other semifinal, tournament host New Paltz takes on Brockport at 7:30 p.m. Semifinal winners advance to the championship game 4 p.m. Saturday, with the conference champs automatically qualifying for the NCAA Division III Tournament, starting next week.
