Bengals take SUNYAC opener

BUFFALO, N.Y. -- Buffalo State scored the first seven points of the game, and the final eight points of the first quarter to stake themselves to a lead the Fredonia State women's basketball team could not overcome in a 72-59 loss at Buff State.

Anna Chiacchia turned in a 17-point, eight-rebound effort and had a team-high four steals. Lauren Mickley added 14 points and Rae White was the third Blue Devil to reach double digits with 11 points.

Katie Pitcher grabbed 11 boards and Mickley had four assists.

The Bengals would lead 26-12 after one quarter. The rest of the game was evenly played. Fredonia State would outscore the Bengals by a point in each of the second and third quarters, 13-12 and 15-14, respectively. Buffalo State held a one-point edge in the fourth quarter, 20-19.

The closest the Devils would get would be eight points. White connected at the 5:55 mark of the fourth quarter to make it a 58-50 game. 

Buff State held a 47-46 edge in rebounds, and a 7-5 advantage in three pointers.

Liv LeBarron had 24 points and nine rebounds to pace the Bengals. Katie Villarini added 11 points and 12 rebounds for the hosts.

Fredonia State falls to 2-4 overall. The Bengals move to 3-3 on the season. It was the first conference game for both teams.
