FREDONIA, N.Y. --
Charlie Manley recorded a natural hat trick to account for all the scoring in Fredonia State's 3-2 SUNYAC men's hockey home win Friday over the Cortland Red Dragons.
The senior defenseman from Orchard Park, N.Y. scored twice in the second period, the second on a power play, and added an insurance power-play goal in the third. The three goals were his fifth, sixth, and team-leading seventh of the season.Â
Senior goaltender Anton Rosen have 34 saves as the Blue Devils improved to 2-5-3 overall and 1-5-1 in SUNYAC. Cortland fell to 3-7-0 overall and 2-6-0 in the conference.
Cortland took a 1-0 lead 38 seconds into the game when Douglas Elgstam stole the puck at his blue line and went in alone on Rosen. Manley then scored the next three goals: at 5:50 of the second period to complete a 2-on-1 rush with a backhander, at 15:53 of the second with a shot through a screen from the left circle, and at 7:57 of the third from the high slot.Â
Cortland pulled the goaltender in favor of the extra attacker and Sean Perichak scored with 1:04 left. The Red Dragons stayed on the attack for the final minute but failed to net the equalizer.
The Blue Devils are back in Steele Hall on Saturday night when they entertain Oswego at 7 p.m. as part of the annual Stroke Awareness Game.
