FREDONIA, N.Y. --
Matt Belardi scored 2:40 into overtime to lift Fredonia State past Oswego, 1-0, in SUNYAC men's soccer Friday at University Stadium.
Belardi raced upfield and headed a wide cross from
Cole Teelin. The ball rattled into the upper left corner of the net past Oswego goalkeeper Brian Terra.
It was Belardi's first goal of the season and his third over the past two seasons, all of them game-winners.Â
By winning, the Blue Devils kept their SUNYAC playoff chances alive. They are 2-4-2 in the conference, good for seven points, heading into the regular-season finale against 1 p.m. Saturday vs. Cortland at University Stadium. They are two points back of Brockport for the sixth and final playoff spot. Geneseo, with six points, is three points back.
Brockport visits Geneseo on Saturday to close out its regular season. The Blue Devils will need to win and have Geneseo defeat Brockport in order to earn the sixth seed.
The Blue Devils, 6-7-4 overall, outshot Oswego 13-9 on Friday, while the Lakers (9-6-1 overall, 4-3-1 SUNYAC) had a 7-5 advantage in corner kicks.
Fredonia State had three excellent scoring chances in the first half, only to come up empty against Terra, who finished with five saves. The first missed chance came early, a Blue Devil shot wide of an open net. Terra later stopped two penalty kicks, in the sixth and 44th minutes, plus a rebound from point-blank range.

Ty Bentham wasn't tested as severely yet was still a picture of consistency while earning his third shutout of the season and his 15th as a collegian. He was credited with five saves.
