FREDONIA, N.Y. – Off to its best start in years, the Fredonia men's hockey team will kick off the second semester with home games this weekend against the Stevenson Mustangs. Game times are 7 p.m. Friday and 3 p.m. Saturday.

This is the third straight season Fredonia and Stevenson have met. All four previous games have gone overtime and three have ended in ties. The Mustangs were 5-4 winners in the first meeting two years ago on their home ice, followed by a 2-2 tie the following day, and 3-3 and 2-2 ties last year at Steele Hall.

Stevenson, located in Owings Mills, Md., comes to town riding a four-game losing streak. Its most recent game was a 3-1 loss to Elmira on Dec. 8. That loss dropped the Mustangs to 3-6-0 in the United Collegiate Hockey Conference. They are 5-7-0 overall.

The Mustangs are coached by Dominick Dawes, in his fourth season at Stevenson. He won the 2009 NCAA Division III title at Neumann in his first season as a head coach and was voted ACHA Men's Division III Coach of the Year. He also won a national title as a player at Norwich in 2003.

The Blue Devils compiled an 8-2-2 record during the first semester and briefly earned their first national ranking – at No. 14 – for the first time in 14 seasons. They also take a 5-1-0 conference record when SUNYAC competition resumes later this month.
