Knights hold off Devils

GENESEO, N.Y. -- The Fredonia men's basketball team fell just short of completing the season sweep of Geneseo. After defeating the Knights in Fredonia earlier this season, Geneseo returned the favor with a 71-62 victory on Tuesday.

De'Quan Smith (Rochester, N.Y. / Penfield) led the Devils with 16 points, including four three pointers. Isaiah Ice (Bronx, N.Y. / Iona Prep), Colden George (North Java, N.Y. / Attica), and Matt Perez (Miami, Fla. / Florida Christian) all finished with eight points. Cody Johnson (Cassadaga, N.Y. / Cassadaga Valley) was the top rebounder with six.

The first half remained close until the final minutes. Neither team led by more than four points until Fredonia pulled away late. With Geneseo nursing a three-point lead, the Devils closed out the first half with the final 10 points to go up 36-29.

Geneseo scored the first bucket of the second half, then Bediako Nyasa (Harlem, N.Y. / Walton) and Smith hit back-to-back three pointers to give Fredonia the biggest lead of the game for either team, 42-31.

Geneseo would take back the lead, 55-54, with 7:47 left in the game.

Fredonia used a Mark Morgan (Bronx, N.Y. / South Bronx Prep) free throw tied the game at 55, then Geneseo rattled off seven straight to take the lead for good.

Terence Rogers led Knights (5-10 / 2-6 SUNYAC) with 16 points. Terrance Nichols added 15.

The Devils fall to 2-14 and 1-8 in the conference.
