CLERMONT, Fla. -- A squall line passed over the Legends Way softball complex just prior to Monday's 9 a.m. first pitch vs. Juniata. The stiff wind and light eventually cleared and when it did, it found the Fredonia Blue Devils on the short end of a 10-4 score.

The weather had improved significantly by late morning, yet the Blue Devils' fate went unchanged as they fell to Plymouth State, 4-3, in the 11:30 a.m. game. The two losses dropped the Blue Devils to 6-8 overall with one day left on their southern junket. They close out the trip Tuesday with games at 9 a.m. vs. Bowdoin and 11:30 p.m,. vs. Clarkson. Both games will be played at Legends Way.

GAME ONE, Juniata 10, Fredonia 4 -- The teams were tied 2-2 in the third inning before Juniata's Alyssa Shedlock crushed a two-run homer deep to right off sophomore right-hander Sam Seegar (North Tonawanda, N.Y./Starpoint). The Eagles added three runs in the last of the fifth, followed by a two-run sixth by the Blue Devils. Three more runs in the last of the sixth provided Juniata with its winning margin. Fredonia's Katelyn Dennis (Webster, N.Y./Webster Schroeder) had a double and a single and eight teammates had one hit each. Katie Yudin (Liverpool, N.Y./Liverpool) had a two-run single to account for the sixth-inning runs. Eva FitzSimmons (Fairport, N.Y./Fairport) had an RBI single to tie the score at 2-2 in the top of the third. Fredonia's fourth run scored via a Juniata throwing error. Erin Pfeffer was the winning pitcher while Chrisi Lerchen picked up a save. Lerchen and Jennifer Carthew had three hits each for the Eagles, who had nine extra-base hits.

GAME TWO, Plymouth State 5, Fredonia 4 -- The Blue Devils took a 3-2 lead into the top of the seventh, yet were unable to close out the win. Big Plymouth State hits in the inning were a lead-off triple by Nina Murray and an RBI single Abrie Davis to plate the go-ahead run. Three Panther pitchers limited the Blue Devils to five hits, including two singles by FitzSimmons, who raised her average to .395 (15 for 38). Dennis and Lauren Pixley (Hamburg, N.Y./Frontier) had RBI. The third Fredonia run scored on an error. Yudin was tagged with the pitching loss while Allison Moylan -- the first of two relievers -- picked up the win. Caitlyn Miller pitched a 1-2-3 seventh for the save.
