Devils beaten by No. 3 Geneseo

FREDONIA, N.Y. -- Nationally ranked Geneseo came on hard and fast Friday en route a 6-1 SUNYAC men's hockey win over Fredonia at Steele Hall.

The Knights (3-0 overall, 1-0 SUNYAC), ranked No. 3 in both the USCHO.com and D3Hockey polls, scored three goals in the first period and added one insurance marker in each of the next two periods.

Tyson Empey scored the first two goals and added an assist to earn the No. 1 star. Duggie Legrone with two assists was the No. 2 star. Mitch Ferguson was the No. 3.

The Fredonia Blue Devil Booster Player of the Game was senior forward Todd Schauss (Terryville, Conn.), whose goal at 5:05 of the second period was the first yielded this season by the Knights. Sophomore defenseman Tommy Martyn (Westchester, Ill.) picked up the lone assist.

Devin McDonald made 23 saves for Geneseo while Eric Bogart (London, Ont.) stopped 21 of 23 shots in the final two periods. He entered in relief of starter Anton Rosen (Orsa, Sweden), who was tagged for the first four Geneseo goals.

The Blue Devils return to SUNYAC competition Saturday when they visit Brockport for a 7 o'clock game.
