Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Loss at Platty puts Devils on playoff bubble

PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. -- A 2-0 loss Friday to the Plattsburgh Cardinals put a dent Fredonia's SUNYAC women's soccer playoff chances.

The Blue Devils (7-9-1 overall, 3-4-1 SUNYAC) head into their regular-season finale Saturday morning at Potsdam needing a win to make the six-team tournament. Anything less and they will need help getting in.

In Friday's loss, the Blue Devils allowed one goal in each half, were outshot 19-3, and took just one corner kick to two by the Cardinals (11-5-0 overall, 5-3-0 SUNYAC).

Sophomore forward Danielle Spring (Allegany, N.Y./Allegany-Limestone) had two of Fredonia's shots, both on goal, while sophomore goalkeeper Abbey Monahan (Warsaw, N.Y./Warsaw) made 10 saves.

With 10 points to their credit, the Blue Devils head into Saturday in fifth place with no chance of moving up. Instead they have four teams nipping at their heels -- three with nine points and one with eight. Three points are credited for a win, one for a tie.

Game time Saturday is 11 a.m.
