Devils solid in 3-1 win over Brockport

FREDONIA, N.Y. -- Fredonia earned two important SUNYAC points with a 3-1 home win Friday over Brockport.

Tyler Riter (Orchard Park, N.Y.) and Ryan Dunn (Rockland, Mass.) each had a goal and an assist while Anton Rosen (Orsa, Sweden) made 36 saves as the Blue Devils improved to 8-5-3 overall and 4-3-0 in the SUNYAC.

In addition to earning the two points, the Blue Devils moved ahead of the Golden Eagles (8-7-1 overall, 3-4-1 SUNYAC) in the conference standings by avenging a 4-1 loss at Brockport earlier in the season.

Max Blitz had Fredonia's other goal while Chris Pollini scored for Brockport. Golden Eagle goaltender Jake Moore made 36 saves.

Riter earned the No. 1 star, Dunn the No. 2, and Moore the No. 3.

Fredonia took a 1-0 lead as Blitz scored with a wrister from the high slot, his second of the year, on a pass from behind the net by Dunn (Rockland, Mass.). Moore kept it 1-0 Fredonia when he stopped a breakaway by Josh Biasillo (Orchard Park, N.Y.), who tried to jam the puck just inside the post while the Blue Devils were on a penalty kill.

Fredonia took a 2-0 lead on Riter's sixth goal of the season when he chipped the puck between Moore's legs early in the second period. Ryan Dunner (Glassboro, N.J.) set up the goal when he chipped the puck ahead after the teams battled for the puck in the neutral zone. Brockport broke through with 36 seconds left in the second period when Zac Sikich scored on a wrist shot from the left circle, his ninth of the season. The power-play tally began when Aidan Verbeke won a faceoff in the offensive end, resulting his 14th assist of the season.

Moore kept its a one-goal game when he stopped Colin Valentine (Turnersville, N.J.) on a breakaway midway through the third. Moore added a third open-ice save later in the period, but not keep Riter from scoring an insurance goal, his fourth of the year, with 2:32 left when he tipped a pass from Riter into the top shelf.

Rosen improved to 6-0-1 this season while the Blue Devils improved to 6-1-3 at home. They are also 5-0-1 when leading after the first period, 7-0-2 when leading after two periods, and 7-1-1 when scoring first.

The Blue Devils take to the road Saturday to meet Geneseo at 7 p.m.
