ONEONTA, N.Y. -- The Fredonia men's basketball team led at the half, but could not hold on in a 76-65 road loss at Oneonta.
Ian Helps (Bronx, N.Y. / Greater New York Academy) led the Devils with 15 points and
Kay Jackson (Ridgewood, N.Y. / Grover Cleveland) chipped in 11.
Justin Tapper (White Plains, N.Y. / White Plains) scored the game's first two field goals and the Devils would mount an 8-0 lead. Oneonta would grab its first lead, 15-14, at the 12:54 mark. There would be two more ties and five more lead changes by the time the Devils led 35-34 at the intermission.
The second half saw eight more lead changes before the Devils held their final lead, 61-60, with 5:10 left to play.
A three pointer by Oneonta's Kevin Mackin gave the Dragons their final lead. By the time the Red Dragons completed an 11-0 run, the were on top 68-61 with just under three minutes to play.
After a free throw by Fredonia's Dante Williams (Buffalo, N.Y. / Hutch Tech), Oneonta closed out the game on an 8-3 run, with all eight points coming from the free throw line. They made eight of 10 attempts from the line, while Fredonia's final bucket came from a three by Williams.
Oneonta outrebounded the Devils 40-31 and made 11 threes to the Devils' five. Oneonta was 13 of 17 (77 percent) from the line, while Fredonia hit six of 14 attempts (43 percent).
Oneonta (9-6 overall, 5-4 SUNYAC) was led by 23 points from Mackin.
The Devils (2-14 / 0-10) travel to New Paltz on Saturday.
