FREDONIA, N.Y. -- With the Devils up 7-3, Penn State Behrend used a three-run fifth, and a four-run sixth to take the lead and eventually down Fredonia, 15-7, at Ludwig Field on Monday. The win allows Behrend to claim the I-90 Cup that Fredonia had earned last Tuesday following an 8-2 win. The all-time series in the Cup Era is now tied at three games apiece.
After surrendering three runs in the first inning, Fredonia took the lead with a four-run fourth. Danny Goodbread (Tully / Tully) had a two-run single.
Alexio Medina (Elma / Iroquois) drove in a run with a fielder's choice, and
Patrick Sheehan (Orchard Park / Orchard Park) capped the scoring with a single that plated Goodbread.
Derek Fie (Corning, / Corning) led off the fourth with a solo homerun. Following a hit-by-pitch and a Josh Crocetti (Hilton / Hilton) double,
Liam Kelly (Buffalo / Bishop Timon) singled to make it a 6-3 game. Medina would drive in one more run on a sacrifice fly to give the Devils a 7-3 lead.
Behrend scored seven runs over the next two innings to take control of the game.
Kelly led the Devils with three hits, and Fiore and Fie each had a pair.
Behrend moves to 17-16, while the Devils fall to 16-17.
Fredonia is on the road this weekend with a three-game set in Plattsburgh.
