OSWEGO, N.Y. -- Fredonia led early and rallied let in its 12-10 women's lacrosse loss Friday to the Oswego State Lakers.
Two goals each by
Jade Williams (Tully, N.Y.) and
Katie Miller (Hamburg, N.Y.) staked the Blue Devils to a 4-2 lead. Oswego State took command with a 6-0 run before a goal by
Audrey Yokopovich (Webster, N.Y.) ended the run and closed out the first half.
Down 10-5 midway through the second half, Fredonia twice pulled within two goals -- first on a 3-0 run on goals by
Samantha Spiess (Fairport, N.Y.),
Jen Kershner (Liverpool, N.Y.), and
Madeline Haney (Macedon, N.Y.). Miller and Williams scored in the closing minutes for the final margin.
In addition to her three goals, Yokopovich had seven draw controls and collected three ground balls. Haney also collected three ground balls while Spiess took three draws.
Two Fredonia goalkeepers split time.
Nicole Burrows (Baldwinsville, N.Y.) made two saves and
Lauren Spencer (Hamburg, N.Y.) made five.
Fredonia fell to 2-11 overall and 1-4 in the SUNYAC. Its next game is Thursday at St. John Fisher.
Oswego State improved to 6-5 overall and 4-1 in the SUNYAC.
