BOXSCORE MIDDLETOWN, Conn. -- Wesleyan (Conn.) broke open a see-saw game early in the second half and rolled to a 15-9 women's lacrosse win Wednesday over Fredonia.
Senior attack
Katie Miller (Hamburg, N.Y.) had three goals and sophomore midfielder
Samantha Spiess (Fairport, N.Y.) two goals and two assists to lead Fredonia. Freshman midfielder
Madeline Haney (Macedon, N.Y.) also had two goals, plus one assist.
Top field players for the Blue Devils (0-3) was junior midfielder
Audrey Yokopovich (Webster, N.Y.) with five draw controls, five ground balls, and four caused turnovers.
Abby Manning scored seven goals for Wesleyan (2-0).
The teams traded goals throughout the first half with neither leading by more than a goal. Fredonia took its only lead, 5-4, with 23 seconds left before halftime as
Jade Williams (Tully, N.Y.) scored. Wesleyan scored again to send the teams into halftime tied 5-5.
Miller had the only Fredonia goal during a 6-1 run by Wesleyan which effectively decided the outcome. The Blue Devils were outscored 10-4 in the second half.
The Blue Devils are back in action 3 p.m. Saturday against Roger Williams at The National Training Center in Clermont, Fla.
