CLERMONT, Fla. -- Fredonia rallied Thursday morning for a 9-7 women's softball win over Fairleigh Dickinson-Florham on the Blue Devils' final day at The Spring Games.
A two-run homer by senior
Erin Mushtare (Oneonta, N.Y.) triggered a three-run sixth and a two-run triple by senior
Sarah Cuillo (Blasdell, N.Y.) capped a four-run seventh as the Blue Devils overcome a 6-2 deficit and improved to 10-5.
Freshman right-hander
Sam Seegar (North Tonawanda, N.Y.) earned the win in relief. She allowed one run on four hits over the final 2 2/3 innings. She is 3-1 this spring.
Mushtare led the 12-hit attack with three hits, including her first collegiate homer -- a liner over the fence in right-center. Also connecting for the first time as a collegian was sophomore
Mallory Mecca (Derby, N.Y.) with a solo blast to left to tie the game at 2-2 in the top of the fourth. Mecca also singled after Mushtare homered in the sixth and drew a bases-loaded walk to tie the game 6-6 in the seventh.
Khee Nance (Dunkirk, N.Y.) had an RBI single to put Fredonia on top 1-0 in the first. Cuillo had an RBI single in the sixth ahead of the game-tying walk to Mecca. The Blue Devils then took the lead, 7-6, on a wild pitch before Cuillo lined a triple inside the right-field line and out of the reach of the diving right-fielder. Two runs scored to push the Fredonia lead to 9-6.
FDU-Florham got one run back in the last of the seventh before Seegar induced two groundouts and a strikeout to end the game.
Fredonia closes out its Florida trip this afternoon vs. Hood. First pitch from Clermont's Hancock Park is scheduled for 12:30 p.m.
