OSWEGO, N.Y. -- An upset bid by Fredonia fell short Friday with a 2-1 loss to nationally ranked and SUNYAC-leading Oswego.
Goals by Chris Waterstreet and Andrew Barton and 19 saves by goaltender David Jacobson keyed the Lakers, who improved to 19-4-1 overall and 12-2-1 in the conference.
Oswego, which clinched the No. 1 SUNYAC seed, is ranked No. 2 by D3hockey.com and No. 3 by USCHO.com.
Samuel Wilbur (Saginaw, Mich.) scored Fredonia's goal at 7:54 of the third period to cut Oswego's lead to 2-1. It was Wilbur's 13th goal of the season.
Jacob Haynes (Whitby, Ont.) and
Jimmy Morgan (Highlands Ranch, Col.) earned assists.
Fredonia goaltender
Eric Bogart (London, Ont.) made 30 saves.
The loss combined with Buffalo State's 4-3 win at Cortland put to rest any chance Fredonia had of hosting a SUNYAC Tournament game next week. Instead, the Blue Devils will travel to Plattsburgh, Geneseo or Buffalo State, depending on the outcome of Saturday's regular-season finales across the conference.
Fredonia ends its regular season Saturday night at Cortland. Game time is 7 p.m.
