ALFRED, N.Y. -- Fredonia received a double-double from senior
Ian Helps (Bronx, N.Y. / Greater New York Academy) and freshman
Jonathan McDonald (Brooklyn, N.Y. / High School for Public Service) en route to a 74-51 victory over Alfred State on Tuesday.
Helps finished with 19 points and 13 rebounds, while McDonald went for 14 and 12.
Isaiah Ice (Bronx, N.Y. / Iona Prep) added 14 points and 6 boards, andÂ
Keith Ruiz (Rockville Centre, N.Y. / South Side) added 10 points.Â
Justin Tapper (White Plains, N.Y. / White Plains) just missed a double-double with 9 points and 8 rebounds.
ASU (4-3) was led by Tahaij Lewis with 13 points and 9 rebounds.Â
To start the game, Ice scored on a layup, then Tapper hit a three and converted a layup to put Fredonia up 7-0. They would never trail.
McDonald finished the game with baskets on the final two possessions to give Fredonia its largest lead of the game at 23 points at the final buzzer.
The Blue Devil defense harassed the Pioneers to the tune of 26 percent (20 of 76) shooting from the floor, while connecting on 46 percent (26 of 56) of their shots. The Devils had a 59-42 advantage in rebounds, as well.
The Blue Devils (2-6) return home this weekend when they play host to Cortland and Oswego on Friday and Saturday.Â
