MEADVILLE, PA. -- The Fredonia women's basketball team lost 75-47 to Carnegie Mellon in its season opener at the Greg Reynolds Memorial Tip-Off Classic on Friday afternoon at Allegheny College.
Freshman
Sydney Turley (Cheektowaga, N.Y. / Cleveland Hill) had 16 points in her college debut.
Jenna Einink (Westfield, N.Y. / Chautauqua Lake) added 12 points and
Jacque Law (Lime Lake, N.Y. / Pioneer) had 8.
Carnegie Mellon opened the game on a 16-2 run over the first 5:23. Fredonia's only points came on a jumper by Einink. C-M led 40-21 at the half.
The Tartans were led by sophomore Laurel Pereira with a career-high 20 points. She was one of four players in double digits.
The Tartans (1-0) shot 40.5% from the floor while holding the Blue Devils to 28.1% shooting.
Fredonia takes on Penn State Behrend Saturday at 11 a.m. to wrap up the classic.
