Devils run away from Bears

POTSDAM, N.Y. -- Fredonia jumped out early and led wire to wire in dropping Potsdam 73-47 on Saturday. Eleven different players scored, led by 15 apiece from Jenna Einink (Westfield, N.Y. / Chautauqua Lake) and Khee Nance (Dunkirk, N.Y. / Dunkirk). Einink added eight rebounds.

The win completed a 4-0 weekend for the men's and women's teams, the first time both squads completed road sweeps of Plattsburgh and Potsdam in school history, dating back to 1982-83.

The Devils held Potsdam to just five points in the first quarter, and six in the second. By halftime, the Devils had built a 39-11 lead, putting the game out of reach.

Einink scored 11 points in the first half on five of six shooting, including six of the Devils' first 10 points. Potsdam shot just four of 27 from the floor, including 0 for 12 from three-point range in the half.

Alexis Cheatham (Lockport, N.Y./Lockport) finished the game eight points and had four assists for the Devils. The Devils won the battle on the boards, 53-40.

Potsdam (1-9, 0-6 SUNYAC) was led by Abbey LaPage with 17 points. Emily Drake had 11 rebounds.

Fredonia improves to 11-1 overall and 6-0 in the SUNYAC. This sets up a showdown between conference leaders Fredonia and Geneseo on Tuesday at Steele Hall.

Geneseo stands at 5-0 in the SUNYAC and 11-0 overall. Game time is slated for 7:30 p.m., following the men's game.
