ERIE, Pa. -- The Fredonia Blue Devils women's tennis team fell, 7-2, Wednesday night at Penn State Behrend.
Anna Chiacchia (Hamburg, N.Y./Hamburg), a freshman, earned a point at second singles when she rallied back 3-6, 6-3, 10-2. The other Fredonia point went to junior Chloe Karnisky (Canandaigua, N.Y. / Canandaigua) at sixth singles when her opponent defaulted.
In other singles matches, senior Halee Dickinson (Brockport, N.Y./Brockport) fought back to a third-set tiebreaker before falling at third singles; while sophomore Olivia Miller (Springwater, N.Y. / Wayland-Cohocton), senior Leanne Hofstead (Liverpool, N.Y. / Liverpool), and sophomore Adrianna Speach (Baldwinsville, N.Y. / C.W. Baker) were defeated at first, fourth, and fifth singles, respectively.
Fredonia's first doubles pair of Chiacchia and Miller fell short 8-5 after a long fight, Dickinson and Hofstead lost at No. 2, and senior Phoebe Langdon (Syracuse, N.Y. / Westhill) and sophomore Christine Thomas (Ransomville, N.Y. / Niagara Wheatfield) had a strong start before falling 8-6.
The Devils (1-1) are back in action 1 p.m. Saturday vs. Brockport on the Steele Hall Courts. It's the first home match of the season.
