Season-opening split

CORTLAND, N.Y. -- The Fredonia volleyball team split a pair of matches Saturday over Misercordia and Rochester at the Cortland Red Dragon Classic. They finished the weekend at 2-2.

Courtney Poirier (West Seneca, N.Y. / West Seneca West) was named to the All-Tournament Team.

Rochester def. Fredonia , 3-0 (25-8, 25-22, 25-14)
Kailey Falk (York, N.Y. / Our Lady of Mercy) led the Devils with seven kills, 10 digs and four aces. Kristen Stanek (Hamburg, N.Y. / Orchard Park) had six kills and freshman Amanda Mosack (Webster, N.Y. / Webster Schroeder) had 19 assists.

Fredonia def. Misercordia, 3-0 (25-19, 25-23, 25-15)
Falk again led the team in kills with 10. Megan Collins (Burlingham, N.Y. / Pine Bush) had eight and Stanek had seven. Falk and Poirier also had three service aces apiece. Hallie Christopher (East Amherst, N.Y. / Clarence) was credited with 31 assists. Poirier had 15 digs.

Fredonia def. Utica, 3-0 (25-13, 25-12, 25-17)
Offensively, Collins had 10 kills, Rachel Aiello (Baldwinsville, N.Y. / C.W. Baker) had nine and Falk finished with eight. Mosack topped the team in both assists, with 40, and digs, with seven.

Stockton def. Fredonia, 3-2 (19-25, 25-19, 25-17, 20-25, 15-11)
Christopher had 52 assists in a match that went all five sets. Top offensive players were Collins with 14 kills, Aiello with 11 kills and Stanek with 10 kills.  Defensively, Collins had four block assists and Poirier had 17 digs. Poirier also had three service aces.
