BUFFALO, N.Y. -- The Fredonia women's tennis team opened the season with a 9-0 victory at D'Youville on Saturday morning.
The doubles lineup featured the experienced senior duo of
Chloe Cohen (West Hempstead, N.Y. / West Hempstead) and
Halee Dickinson (Brockport, N.Y. / Brockport) at No. 2, who handled their challengers 8-1.
The other two doubles victories came from sophomore,
Olivia Miller (Springwater, N.Y. / Wayland-Cohocton) and freshman,
Anna Chiacchia (Hamburg, N.Y. / Hamburg ) at No.1 doubles, and senior,
Leanne Hofstead (Liverpool, N.Y. / Liverpool) and sophomore,
Christine Thomas (Ransomville, N.Y. / Niagara Wheatfield) at third.
On the singles side, Dickinson defeated, Leah Rebman at fifth with a score of 6-0, 6-0. Another shut out victory came from sophomore Adrianna Speach (Baldwinsville, N.Y. / C.W. Baker) in her first collegiate match.
Miller, at first singles, defeated her opponent for a 6-3, 6-4 victory. Cohen, at second singles, and Hofstead, at fourth, also shined in their matches, with winning scores of 6-0, 6-1, and 6-2, 6-2 respectively.
Coming off of a victory in her first collegiate competition, Chiacchia used the momentum from her doubles win to soar past Dena Iadanza at third singles with a score of 6-2, 6-0.
Fredonia travels to Penn State Behrend on September 7.
