PITTSFORD, N.Y. -- Brandon Butts (Schenevus, N.Y./Charlotte Valley) scored twice off a pair of corner kicks to lead Fredonia over Nazareth, 3-1, in non-conference men's soccer Wednesday night.

Ryan Keller (East Aurora, N.Y./East Aurora) set up Butts for a header in the 23rd minute. Bryan Sibble (Liverpool, N.Y./Cicero-North Syracuse) cornered on the second goal by Butts, another header, to put Fredonia on top 2-0 in the 60th minute. They were the first two goals of the season by Butts.

Nazareth quickly grabbed the momentum with a goal by Ben Rodney in the 61st minute. The Blue Devils regained their two-goal lead with Keller set up Aaron Hayes (Hamburg, N.Y./St. Francis) in the 74th minute, his first goal of the season.

"We haven't been making it easy on ourselves," said Blue Devil Head Coach P.J. Gondek, who felt his team played "a sluggish first half."

"The second half was a different story," he continued. "Even after missing a penalty kick and getting scored on, we pushed the pace and pressured them into mistakes. It was a solid effort overall, but we're not there yet."

Ty Bentham (Columbus, Ind./Columbus), a freshman goalkeeper making his second collegiate start, registered his second win with three saves.

The Blue Devils improved to 3-1-1 heading into their non-conference matchup vs. Geneva College (Pa.) at University Stadium 2:30 p.m. Saturday.

The loss dropped Nazareth to 3-2.
