Devils sweep pair, series ender today

FREDONIA, N.Y. -- Fredonia swept a SUNYAC baseball doubleheader with Oneonta, 10-0 and 6-5, Wednesday afternoon at Ludwig FIeld. They will look for a series sweep when the teams meet again today at 3 o'clock.

Senior right-hander Zachary Jordon (Akron, N.Y./Akron) allowed four hits and struck out 11 while recording the shutout in Wednesday's first game. His support on offense came from numerous sources.

Junior first baseman Michael Prentice (West Seneca, N.Y./St. Francis) and junior third baseman Matt Wilhelm (Buffalo, N.Y./Amherst) had four hits each to lead an 18-hit attack. Senior shortstop Kyle Sherman (North Collins, N.Y./North Collins) had three hits while senior catcher Dan Cecilia (Utica, N.Y./Whitesboro), senior left-fielder Quinn Danahy (Buffalo, N.Y./Bishop TImon), and sophomore centerfielder Joshua Crocetti (Rochester, N.Y./Hilton) had two hits each. Cecilia and Wilhelm each had a pair of RBI.

The Blue Devils blew the game open with a seven-run sixth inning. They also scored four runs in the fifth inning of the second game, then hung on to improve to 11-14 overall and 4-7 in the SUNYAC. Sherman, Prentice, Cecilia, and Crocetti each had two hits and Wilhelm collected two more RBI.

Freshman right-hander Luke Kuczewski (Hamburg, N.Y./Orchard Park) started and pitched the first four innings to get the win; he improved to 2-2. Junior right-hander Zach Lyman (Belmont, N.Y./Genesee Valley) pitched a scoreless seventh for his second save of the season.
