FREDONIA, N.Y. -- Fredonia was looking for a different result Friday when it met Cortland in SUNYAC men's hockey at Steele Hall.
Seven different players had a goal in the Blue Devils' 7-3 win in the next-to-last game of the season. The Blue Devils improved to 8-13-3 overall and 4-9-2 in the SUNYAC.
Zach White (Taberg, N.Y.) collected three assists to earn the No. 1 star,
Taylor Bourne (Calgary, Alberta) had a goal -- his team-leading 13th -- and two assists to earn the No. 2, and
Oskar Gerhardson (Haessleholm, Sweden) earned the No. 3 star with one goal and one assist.
Bobby Polachek (Kingstion, Pa.) also had a goal and an assist.
Samuel Wilbur (Saginaw, Mich.),
Kyle Jelinski (Edmonton, Alberta),
Jimmy Morgan (Highlands Ranch, Calif.), and
Marcus Ortiz (Richardson, Texas) had Fredonia's other goals. It was Ortiz's 11th goal of the season.
With the score tied 2-2, Wilbur put Fredonia up to stay when he collected a rebound to the left of the net and scored following a shot by White at 6:40 of the second period. Jelinski and Bourne added the next two goals as the Blue Devils stretched their lead to 5-2.
That was more than enough for goaltender
Eric Bogart (London, Ont.), who made 32 saves. Fredonia outshot Cortland, 45-35.
Tommy Nolan had a goal and an assist while Andrew McCann and Darren McCormick had one goal each for Cortland.
The Blue Devils and Red Dragons had tied the last four times they met, including 5-5 when they met earlier this season in Cortland. It was also the sixth time between the two in their last nine games.
Fredonia closes out its regular season when it meets Oswego at 7 p.m. Saturday at Steele Hall. Six Blue Devils will be recognized prior to their final collegiate game.
