WILLIAMSPORT, PA. -- The Fredonia men's basketball team fell 67-45 to Lycoming in the opening round of the Basinger Memorial Tournament on Thursday.
Richard De La Cruz (New York, N.Y. / Norman Thomas) led the Fredonia (3-7) with 10 points.
Lycoming improved to 11-1, and was paced by Willie Kee's 14 points.
De La Cruz opened the game with a three pointer to give Fredonia the initial lead. Lycoming responded with the next five points.
With 8:25 remaining in the half, a
Tommie Banks (Rochester, N.Y. / East) layup pulled the Devils to within one, 20-19. From that point on, the Warriors gradually pulled away, holding a 43-27 lead at the break.Â
Lycoming outscored the Devils 22-20 the second half to seal the win.
Ian Helps (Bronx, N.Y. / Greater New York Academy) and
Kareem Brown (Brooklyn, N.Y. / Brooklyn H.S. for Law & Tech) chipped in seven points apiece, and Brown and Dante Williams (Buffalo, N.Y. / Hutch Tech) had eight rebounds apiece.
Lycoming held a 43-40 advantage on the boards, and both teams experienced a cold night in long-range shooting. Fredonia was six of 33 from beyond the arc, and Lycoming was two of 20.
Fredonia plays in the consolation game on Friday.
