FREDONIA, N.Y. -- The Fredonia women's basketball handily defeated the Potsdam Bears, 86-55, Friday night in Steele Hall.
Potsdam (1-3, 0-1 SUNYAC) opened up the game on a 12-7 run. A
Jamie Curry (Ransomville, N.Y./Wilson) three-pointer sparked a 24-0 run from the Blue Devils to put them ahead 31-12. Fredonia did not trail the rest of the game.
Potsdam made a push in the second quarter, outscoring Fredonia 20-17 for the quarter. The Blue Devils took a 43-32 lead into halftime.
Fredonia came out firing in the third quarter opening up with a 12-2 run and outscored the Bears 24-7.
Sophomore
Jenna Einink (Westfield, N.Y./Chautauqua Lake) led the way for the Blue Devils, netting 17 points on six of twelve shooting (3-5 three pointers) and grabbed seven rebounds along with three assists and three blocks. Fellow sophomore
Sarah Sweazy (Rochester, N.Y./Rush-Henrietta) added 11 points and seven boards.
Senior
Alexis Cheatham (Lockport, N.Y. / Lockport) had 11 points. Juniors
Jacque Law (Machias, N.Y./Pioneer) and Alicia Szumigala (Forestville, N.Y. / Forestville) scored 10 points each. Law was perfect from the charity stripe shooting six for six.
Meghan Driscoll led Potsdam with 15 points.
The Blue Devils (5-1, 1-0 SUNYAC) are back in action tomorrow as Plattsburgh State comes to town. Tip off is set for 4 p.m.
