FREDONIA, N.Y. --
Ian Helps (Bronx, N.Y. / Greater New York Academy) scored 21 points, grabbed seven boards and had three assists as Fredonia cruised to a 79-59 victory over Potsdam.
Richard De La Cruz (New York, N.Y. / Norman Thomas) added 12 points and four assists, and 11 different players entered the scoring column for the Devils.
Fredonia's built a 15-point lead in the first half.
Nicc Johnson (Buffalo, N.Y. / St. Mary's of Lancaster) completed a three-point play to put the Devils up 24-9 with 9:15 left.
The Bears worked back into the game late in the frame. With the Devils again leading by 15, Potsdam went on a 10-0 run to make it a 34-29 game at the half. Fredonia did not score the final 4:38. Helps led all scorers with eight points.
Potsdam inched closer early in the second half. They pulled within four, 38-34, before Fredonia rattled off eight straight points. Helps started the rally with the first four points.
Two minutes later, the Devils had a 9-0 run.
Justin Tapper (White Plains, N.Y. / White Plains) converted a layup with 8:19 to play to put the Devils up nineteen, 62-43. Fredonia would lead by as many as 25 in the closing minutes
Potsdam (1-3, 0-1 SUNYAC) was led by Dante Langly and Kevin Baksh with nine points apiece. Serigne Kane grabbed 10 boards.
Fredonia (3-3, 1-0 SUNYAC) returns to Steele Hall tomorrow to take on Plattsburgh.
