WILLIAMSPORT, PA. -- Fredonia dropped its men's basketball season opener, 80-66, to Lycoming.
Kareem Brown (Brooklyn, N.Y./Brooklyn H.S. for Law & Tech) led the Blue Devils with 17 points on 7 of 13 shooting, 3 of 6 from beyond the arc. Dante Wiliams (Buffalo, N.Y. / Hutch Tech) added 13 points. Tommie Banks (Rochester, N.Y. / East) led Fredonia with six points and three blocked shots.
Ronald Jefferson led Lycoming with 17 points while Chris Wallace grabbed 11 rebounds.
The Blue Devils jumped to a 6-0 lead in the opening minutes. Williams hit a three-pointer on the first possession of the season,
Ian Helps (Bronx, N.Y. / Greater New York Academy) knocked down a free throw, and Brown added a layup.
Lycoming took command with a 28-5 run while opening a 34-15 lead. Fredonia closed to within seven points, 42-35, on a jumper by Williams on the first possession of the second half, but could get no closer.
The Blue Devils are back in action Friday when they take on Mount Union at 6 p.m. in the opening game of the Hilbert College Tip-Off Tournament in Hamburg, N.Y.
