CORTLAND, N.Y. -- Fredonia's comeback attempt fell short Friday in a 2-1 men's soccer loss to Cortland.
Goals by Tyler Kirschner and Daniel Friend in the fourth and 30th minutes gave the Red Dragons a 2-0 lead.
Fredonia scored its only goal in the 35th minute when
Aaron Hayes (Hamburg, N.Y./St. Francis) booted in a loose ball following a corner kick.
Ryan Keller (East Aurora, N.Y./East Aurora) was credited with an assist on Hayes's goal, his third of the season.
Ty Bentham (Columbus, Ind./Columbus North) made six saves in the Fredonia net. Cortland's Connor Young made eight saves.
Fredonia fell to 8-4-1 overall and 2-2 in the SUNYAC while Cortland improved to 9-2 and 4-1.
The Blue Devils move on to Oswego for a 1 p.m. game Saturday.
