FREDONIA, N.Y. -- The Fredonia women's basketball team let its first-half lead slip away, falling to Geneseo 58-46 on Friday.
Sabrina Macaulay (Newark) led the Devils with 10 points and
Khee Nance (Dunkirk) added nine points and three steals in the low-scoring affair. Fredonia drops to 4-2 in SUNYAC play, with both losses coming at the hands of the Knights. Overall, their record sits at 9-4.
Fredonia led 14-13 after the first quarter, and 24-23 at the half.
Geneseo opened the third quarter with back-to-back layups by Katie Vienneau to take a 27-24 lead that they would hold on to the rest of the way.
Geneseo's largest lead of 12 would come at the final buzzer. The Knights (8-4 overall, 3-2 SUNYAC) were led by Vienneau with 16 points and Katie Durand with 10 rebounds.
Geneseo used a height advantage to prevent the Devils from scoring consistently inside. From beyond the arc, Fredonia was only two of 11, including 0 for seven in the second half. The Knights had a total of eight blocked shots, including four by Allison McKenna. They had a 43-31 advantage in rebounds.
Fredonia shot 67 percent (12-18) from the line and committed a season-low nine turnovers.
Fredonia completes its weekend homestand on Saturday, taking on Brockport at 2 p.m. in Steele Hall.
