CORTLAND, N.Y. -- The Blue Devil women's volleyball team is now 5-0 through the first two weeks of the season after two wins against Wells College and the University of Rochester on Saturday.
Fredonia opened the second day of the Red Dragon Classic winning a four set match against Wells (25-19, 25-15, 19-25, 25-16). Senior middle blocker
Jessica DiChristopher (West Seneca, N.Y. / West Seneca East) collected 13 kills for a .310 hitting percentage, while
Sara Madison had seven kills with no errors for a .318 hitting percentage.
Jane Garrity (Rochester, N.Y. / Victor), with seven kills of her own, had a .438 hitting percentage.
The final match of the tournament would go to five sets. After the Blue Devils took the first two, the Yellow Jackets rallied back with strong defensive play to win the next two sets. Fredonia would pull off the victory in the end, easily controlling the final set of play. Scores were 25-23, 25-21, 23-25, 14-25, 15-6.Â
Garrity collected 10 more kills in the second match for a .360 hitting percentage, while
Sara Madison (Rochester, N.Y. / Penfield) had 14 kills.
Lauren Hokaj (Lancaster, N.Y. / St. Mary's of Lancaster) had 32 digs.
Fredonia will travel to New Paltz next week to play in the Hawks Invitational, which starts on Sept. 11.
