Devils strike it Ritchie in 3-0 win

FREDONIA, N.Y. -- Fredonia junior James Ritchie (East Aurora, N.Y.) had a hand in all the scoring as the Blue Devils topped Nazareth, 3-0, in men's soccer Wednesday night at University Stadium.

Ritchie had a two goals and an assist while junior Bryan Sibble (Liverpool, N.Y.) scored one goal, enabling the Blue Devils to win its first game of the season. They improved to 1-5-0 while Nazareth dropped to 0-6-0.

All the scoring took place in the first half. Ritchie put in a header during a scramble in front of the net in the second minute. Sibble earned an assist after putting a shot off the crossbar. The same two players combined just over one minute later -- a cross into the box by Ritchie leading to a one-touch shot by Sibble. Ritchie completed the scoring in the 12th minute on a penalty kick.

The Blue Devils outshot the Golden Flyers, 25-5, and had an 11-2 advantage in corner kicks. Blue Devil junior goalkeeper Austin Santor (Chazy, N.Y.) earned the win despite not being called on to make a save.

Fredonia is next in action Saturday afternoon at Geneva, Pa.
