HOUGHTON, N.Y. -- TheĀ Fredonia men's soccer team allowed a late goal to fall to host Houghton College, 1-0, it the season-opening game for both squads.
Houghton broke through for a goal in the 73rd minute when Jordan Mullen connected for the Highlanders.
Both sides were credited with 12 shots, with Houghton holding a 5-4 edge in shots on goal. Fredonia had the edge in corner kicks, 5-2.
Offense was slow going in a scoreless first half. Houghton out shot Fredonia, 6-5, and Houghton had the only shot on goal.
Junior
Sammy Torrelli (Akron, N.Y. / Akron) made four saves and allowed the game's only goal. Houghton's Jacob Dunnett was credited with the shutout, making three saves. The Highlander defense was credited with one team save.
