FREDONIA, N.Y. -- The SUNYAC-leading and nationally ranked Plattsburgh Cardinals rolled to a 9-0 win Saturday over the Fredonia Blue Devils at the Steele Hall Ice Arena.
The Cardinals wasted little time, scoring two goals in the first 1:54 of the game. They also had three goals during a five-minute power play in the second period.
Alex Brenton and Brandon O'Quinn had two goals and one assist each while Chris Taff had four assists and Connor Toomey had three assists for Plattsburgh, which began the week ranked No. 10 by USCHO.com and No. 12 by D3Hockey.com. The Cardinals improved to 12-2-0 in the conference and 16-5-1 overall.
Fredonia fell to 0-9-3 in the conference. The Blue Devils are 4-12-5 overall.
Plattsburgh opened the scoring after Luke Baleshta won a faceoff in the Blue Devil defensive zone and dropped the puck back Brenton, who quickly shot and scored just 26 seconds into the game. Brandon O'Quinn made it 2-0 with a shot from the slot after Toomey brought the puck up the right side boards into the Fredonia zone. Toomey also assisted on the third Plattsburgh goal, a shot by Rich Botting from the left of Blue Devil goaltender

The Cardinals broke the game open during a five-minute power play in the second period. Brenton scored from the left faceoff dot, Michael Cassidy scored from the high slot, and O'Quinn was credited with a goal on a deflection on a shot by Brandon Beadow. Plattsburgh scored twice more before the second period was over, first on a shot by Mark Constantine from the high slot and then Baleshta from the high slot. Beadow completed the scoring with the only goal of the third period, a shot from the slot.
Brady Roleau made 22 saves to earn the shutout, his second in two nights, while Flagler and
Christopher Eiserman (Newburyport, Mass.) combined for 38 saves for the Blue Devils.
Fredonia is back in action next weekend with a home-and-home series with Buffalo State, with the Friday game in Buffalo.
