NEW PALTZ, N.Y. -- The Fredonia men's basketball team concluded its season with a 70-57 loss at New Paltz.

Robert Lyles (Peekskill, N.Y. / Peekskill) led the Devils with 14 points, including three long-range buckets, and added five rebounds. Justin Tapper (White Plains, N.Y. / White Plains) and Ian Helps (Bronx, N.Y. / Greater New York Academy) had eight apiece.

The teams kept it close early in the first half. A layup by Helps pulled the Devils within one point, 16-15, midway through the period. New Paltz (11-14 overall, 9-9 SUNYAC) then went on a 16-3 run to go up 32-18 and never looked back. They led 40-28 at the break.

The Blue Devils held a 43-42 advantage on the boards. Neither team was able to get hot offensively. After scorching the nets last night to the tune of 82 points, the Devils shot 37 percent from the field and connected on three of 18 three-pointers. They were 14 of 30 from the free-throw line.

New Paltz shot 45 percent from the field, but was four of 21 from long range and eight of 16 from the line. Taylor Sowah led the Hawks with 19 points and 10 boards.

Fredonia concludes its season at 2-22 and 1-17 in the SUNYAC. The team did not have any seniors and is poised to return a solid core next season.
