FREDONIA, N.Y. -- Tyler Brickler scored three goals Friday as Geneseo topped Fredonia 6-1 in SUNYAC men's ice hockey at Steele Hall Ice Arena.
Sotiris Athanasopoulos had a goal and two assists, Stephen Collins had four assists, and Trevor Hills and Jack Ceglarski had one goal each for Geneseo.
Geneseo goaltender Nick Horrigan made 38 saves as the Blue Knights improved to 9-6-0 in the SUNYACÂ and 12-9-3 overall.
Stephen Castriota (Bellport, N.Y.) scored the lone Fredonia goal.
Jeff Flagler (Owen Sound, Ont.) stopped 33 shots and allowed four goals.
The loss dropped Fredonia to 0-12-3 in the conference and 4-15-5 overall. They end their season Saturday at home against Brockport, game time 7 p.m.
Geneseo scored the only goal of the first period as Brickler scored following a scramble to the left of Flagler. It was Brickler's 11th goal of the season. Athanasopoulos and Collins were credited with assists.
The Blue Knights also scored the only goal of the second period, a rebound shot by Athanasopoulos following a shot from the slot by Collins. Brickler set up the play with a cross-ice pass.
The floodgates opened in the third period beginning with Brickler's second goal on a breakaway during a five-minute power play. The play began with Matt Solomon chipped the puck up the boards and Justin Scharfe picked up the puck and set Brickler up with a pass up ice.
Castriota scored the Fredonia goal, his 11th of the season, on a breakaway. There was no assist.
Ceglarski made it 4-1 with a one-timer after receiving a cross-ice pass from Collins. Hills started the play when he chipped the puck up ice.
After Flagler went to the bench in favor of
Nick Harper (Baldwinsville, N.Y.), Brickler completed his hattrick on a breakaway following a set up from Collins and Athanasopoulos. A one-time by Hills after passes from Jack Caradonna and Connor Anthone completed the scoring.
