Buff State tops Devils

BUFFALO, N.Y. -- The Fredonia women's basketball team fell to Buffalo State 78-64 on Friday. Sabrina Macaulay led the Devils with 17 points and six rebounds. Alexis Cheatham added 14 points and five assists. Sammy Villarini chipped in 10 points, three steals and six rebounds, and Jacque Law had 13 points off the bench.

Fredonia now stands at 9-13 overall and 6-10 in the SUNYAC. The loss deals the Devils a blow to their playoff hopes. They are now tied with Plattsburgh (6-8) and Oswego (6-9) in the win column for the sixth and final spot. The Devils have only two games left, compared to four for Plattsburgh and three for Oswego.

Buffalo State was led by Ashley Wallace with 20 points and 10 rebounds, while Brittnee Perry had 15 points and 16 boards.

The key for the Bengals was their effort on the boards. They outrebounded Fredonia 63-42, including 30-11 in offensive rebounds. Fredonia made the higher percentage of shots (40 percent to 36 percent), but the Bengals outshot Fredonia 91-63.

Buffalo State improves to 12-11 overall and 9-7 in the SUNYAC.
