FREDONIA, N.Y. -- The Cortland Red Dragon men's basketball team got off to a hot start and never looked back, downing Fredonia, 70-46, on Saturday.
Fredonia (1-7, 0-2 SUNYAC) was led by
John Kovach (Shoreham, N.Y. / Shoreham-Wading River) with eight points and 10 rebounds, and
Jared Fish (Salamanca, N.Y. / Salamanca) with eight rebounds.
Justin Tapper (White Plains, N.Y. / White Plains) had nine boards.
Cortland was paced by Bliar Esterfaa with 13 points and Andrew McGuire with 10.
Cortland outscored Fredonia 44-21 in the first half.
Fredonia outrebounded the Dragons, 35-33. They were slowed by shooting only 32 percent from the floor and 47 percent (eight of 14) from the line. Cortland was 44 percent from the floor and 70 percent (16 of 23) from the line. They made eight three-pointers compared to the Devils' four.
The Devils take the next month off. They return to action at Geneseo on January 5.
