FREDONIA, N.Y. -- The Fredonia women's basketball team claimed a 79-39 victory over the visiting Oswego Lakers on Friday, improving to 4-1 on the season.
Freshman
Jenna Einink (Chautauqua Lake) and junior
Alexis Cheatham (Lockport) provided a spark off the bench. Einink went for 14 points and seven rebounds, while Cheatham scored 11, going three of six from three-point land. She also added five assists. Junior Khee Nance (Dunkirk) also contributed nine points in relief.
Sabrina Macaulay (Newark) led the starters with eight points.
Fredonia took a 13-8 lead after the first quarter, then dominated the second quarter, outscoring Oswego 27-7 to take a 40-15 lead into the half.
Oswego held a 41-40 advantage on the boards, but was slowed by a stingy Fredonia defense that allowed them to shoot 11 of 54 from the field (20 percent). The Blue Devils were 33 of 70 (47 percent) from the field. The Devils also held a 20-6 edge in assists, with Einink and Nance dishing out three apiece.
Fredonia is slated to take on Cortland on Saturday at 2 p.m.
