Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Einink shines in debut

ERIE, PA. -- With 10 seconds left to play, and the Fredonia women's basketball team trailing Grove City 72-71, freshman Jenna Einink (Mayville, N.Y. / Chautauqua Lake ) sank a pair of free throws in her first collegiate game to give the Blue Devils a one-point victory over the Wolverines. The teams are participating in the Penn State Behrend Tip-Off Tournament.

Einink finished with 21 points, 13 rebounds and three assists, while senior Sabrina Macaulay (Newark, N.Y. / Newark) scored a game-high 22 points, and grabbed nine boards. Junior Taylor Storer (Gerry, N.Y. / Cassadaga Valley ) dished out five assists.

Macaulay and Einink combined to go 18 of 31 (58 percent) from the field.

Things started slowly for the Devils. After the first quarter, they were down 22-13. They bounced back to tie the game 36-all at the half.

Grove City held the lead most of the rest of the way, save for a tie, 58-all, with 7:02 to play following an offensive rebound and put back by Einink.

From there, the Wolverines would then work their way to an eight-point lead, 68-60, with 4:06 left to play.

Macauley and Einink each converted a layup to cut the lead in half. Storer hit one of two free throws to make it a three-point game, 68-65.

The teams traded buckets before Khee Nance's (Dunkirk, N.Y. / Dunkirk) layup brought Fredonia within one, 70-69, with 1:29 left.

Grove City's Kathryn Erbelding converted a pair of free throws to up the lead to three.

In the final minute, Fredonia's Emily Lasher (Wilson, N.Y. / Wilson) made a layup cut it to a one-point game, 72-71.

Grove City's Jackie Stewart was fouled on the next possession, but missed both free throws.

With a chance to take the lead, Macaulay drove to the hoop. Einink grabbed the rebound and was fouled to set up her heroics, knocking down both free throws.

The Devils take on Hiram College on Saturday. The Terriers had defeated hot Penn State Behrend 62-55 in overtime earlier in the evening. Game time is set for 3 p.m.
