ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The Blue Devils ended the regular season on Saturday with two three-set losses to N.Y.U. (25-20, 25-18, 25-19) and Stevens (25-21, 25-18, 25-22) to finish 2-2 at the New York State Challenge.
After leading in the first set against N.Y.U. 13-10, service errors began catching up with the Blue Devils. Though they finished the opening set with a .323 hitting percentage, eight serving errors proved too much to overcome.
Fredonia opened up the second set with a 5-0 run but five attacking errors in the next 10 points allowed N.Y.U. a rally that the Blue Devils wouldn't overcome for the rest of the match as the Violets held a .233 - .035 advantage in hitting percentage.
Fredonia didn't register any blocks in the three-set match.
Though Fredonia outhit Stevens in the second match .144 - .096, the Ducks' serving was too much for the Blue Devil passers to handle. Stevens came away with 14 aces in the match in comparison to three for the Blue Devils, who also committed eight serving errors.
